Q. What is Christa House?
A. Christa House is a private
home for the terminally ill poor.
Q. Is Christa House a Hospice?
A. No. It is a private
home, just like yours and mine, where staff, volunteers, families
and friends of the dying create a place of peace safety and
dignity. Christa House has 12 beds. We provide physical, emotional,
and spiritual support to the dying while licensed hospices
provide medical care.
Q. How can I make a referral?

Q. What do you mean by "Terminally Ill"?
A. All residents come to
Christa House as hospice clients. This means that a physician
has assessed life expectancy of less than 6 months and licensed
Hospice Agency has accepted the resident as a client.
Q. If a resident lives longer than 6 months and is no
longer a hospice client, must he/she leave Christa House?
A. No. A resident whose
health stabilizes is never "put out" of Christa House
because he/she has been discharged from a hospice service.
Q. Do you accept Children?
A. All residents are 18
years or older at the time of admission.
Q. Do all the residents of Christa House have AIDS?
A. No. Christa House may
accept any terminally ill resident but preference is given
to those with AIDS.
Q. Can anyone come to see Christa House?
A. Yes. Visitors are asked
to call for an appointment. Our usual hours when staff
members can assist you are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Q. Is Christa House part of any church?
A. Christa House is incorporated
independently and operates independently. It is built on property
leased from a local Catholic parish.
Q. Do you have to practice a particular religion to live
in Christa House?
A. No. Christa House welcomes
people of all faiths or no faith. It is open to everyone regardless
of religion, race, ethnicity, social history, gender, sexual
orientation, or any other socially defined characteristic.
Each resident's spirituality and faith tradition is honored
and supported.
