Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Christa House?
A. Christa House is a private home for the terminally ill poor.

Q. Is Christa House a Hospice?
A. No. It is a private home, just like yours and mine, where staff, volunteers, families and friends of the dying create a place of peace safety and dignity. Christa House has 12 beds. We provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to the dying while licensed hospices provide medical care.

Q. How can I make a referral?
A. Call the Director of Admissions at 631-376-0114 x238

Q. What do you mean by "Terminally Ill"?
A. All residents come to Christa House as hospice clients. This means that a physician has assessed life expectancy of less than 6 months and licensed Hospice Agency has accepted the resident as a client.

Q. If a resident lives longer than 6 months and is no longer a hospice client, must he/she leave Christa House?
A. No. A resident whose health stabilizes is never "put out" of Christa House because he/she has been discharged from a hospice service.

Q. Do you accept Children?
A. All residents are 18 years or older at the time of admission.

Q. Do all the residents of Christa House have AIDS?
A. No. Christa House may accept any terminally ill resident but preference is given to those with AIDS.
